About Me

I started this blog at the urging of my AK friends to help relay my moving to WA. I'm hoping this blog will evolve into a place where I share my home-decorating/remodeling, craft projects, and adventures in dog-ownership.

Thanks for reading!!

Felting

Well I have never machine felted before.  I've been working on this knitted laptop case for years now, and it is now ready to get felted.  And I have a front-loading washing machine...
So here are my conflicting advices...

And another idea...

I have scrap yarn from my huge laptop project so I'm excited about trying some smaller felted projects, I have patterns for hot pads, coozies, and a bowl.

Wallpaper

I confiscated some vintage texturized Wallpaper samples from one of my elementary schools, and I convinced Thom that yes indeed they needed to be brought down to WA from AK.  So now I have found proof that others think vintage wallpaper samples are AWESOME!

I'm thinking we have some very boring white doors with panels just screaming for textured color.  And a funky lamp shade, and I'm devising how to make a big wall art above our bed (since painting is too far in the future, and I want to paint bathroooms first anyways...)

So my current inspiration websites...

Cooking adventures

Lots of zucchini and squash =
http://elise.com/recipes/archives/001366zucchini_fritters.php

Actually changed the recipe. And used zucchini and squash and the rest of my crepe batter from breakfast...  Yummy!!

The Pantry...

Well first off, we had to tear out the gross metal shelves that were in the pantry, too rusty and food stained to even consider keeping.  We had this random space above the pantry that needed to be removed, because all it would do would be to collect dust or hide stuff.
It was a white shelf...
From Our New House - The Process

We thought it would be great to use that space for a pot rack.  Which proved to be a lot more difficult to find to fit that space than originally planned.
So the ideas for making one began to form.  We were looking at thrift stores and our Restore for a cool gate.
And these ideas...

Apartment Therapy New York | How To: Hang Curtains Across Any Space
And from my new favorite magazine...
How to Make a Pot Rack from Copper Pipe | Step-by-Step | Kitchen Cabinets | Kitchens | This Old House - Introduction

But then I found this industrial dishwasher rack at the Restore.
From Our New House - The Process
You can see it in the right bottom corner.
Then scrubbed, spray painted, and hung (with chandelier chain-also from the Restore)

Installed shelves, now we just need to finish the trim and we can start finally using our pantry!!

Roman Blinds

Roman blinds are realy expensive if you have abnormally wide windows like us, so I went on a search to make them myself...  (or with mom's help when she came to visit.)

...but then decided this way would work better and made the blinds by combining these ideas.  They still need more work but it's functional...

Tiling & Mosaics

I like this idea for using the same color to make cool shapes.  And I love spirals...
I’m back! Look what I did with my bathroom « Off the Wall
